There has been lots of discussion about the ups and downs of DMI.

Contrary to what some may think - I'm not one for complaining. But, I do believe in asking for change if you want change.

One great example is the re-gifting poll that is going on right now: http://boards.dundermifflininfinity.com/in...showtopic=39941

[I really hope this get approved!!]

I mean, let's think about this for one second - this virtual online community exists for us so that we will remain loyal fans of The Office (and so that they can sell advertising and merchandise... but both of THOSE things also depend on us). So, it is in their best interests to make this a place that we like and will remain loyal to. Even better if it is a place that continues to attract new people rather than losing the old-timers.

Last year we created a Petition asking for a few changes: http://boards.dundermifflininfinity.com/in...amp;hl=petition

It got ripped all to high heaven by a couple people.

But you know what? A lot of the changes we asked for were made:
- You now get SBs for voting.
- The 3.0 Employee Manual talks about the existence of chat rooms (which granted are not running yet).
- You can now view who won each task at each branch in the STATS page.

Not too long ago, I constructed a Statistics Poll asking that they get the statistics up and running: http://boards.dundermifflininfinity.com/in...t=0&start=0

As you all know, they are now online.

In the DMI is Losing It's Shine thread, someone lamented:
"I think one reason it might have loost its shine is because "The Break Room" on the main page hasn't been updated since 10/22 and it's 12/13...nearly 52 days. To give perspective, the contestants on Survivor are only on the island for 39 days.
That and there's still stuff about Summer Splash 2.0 on the main page.
"

I took this and emailed DMI HR about it, and followed it up by posting a Tech Support thread about it: http://boards.dundermifflininfinity.com/in...showtopic=40126

The very next day they updated the main page.

I think that it is important to vent - but it seems to me that it is more constructive to try to mobilize employees to ask for change. Now - when you do this, you inevitable get dumped on by a core-group of pessimistic employees - I won't name names, but you can easily see for yourself who the pessimists and dumpers are by looking at the replies in the forum links above (rest assured they will shat all over this post too... they just tend to do that for some reason).

More importantly, it seems that when you ask for changes that are for the benefit of the DMI community, corporate is actually caring and responsive and are willing to make changes for the good.

Thanks DMI for being very responsive and willing to make changes to make this a better place!

Very eloquently put, Mr. Wonder! Thanks for your ever-positive contributions to DMI as a whole, and more specifically, to our awesome branch.

And THANKS to DMI for taking notice and initiating quick and effective action. The community appreciates it!

It was very very painful to attempt to read your thread.

But I can assure you, you creating topics every other day about a problem that needs to get fixed, a stupid poll here and there asking for the stats page, etc. is not helping.

As stated previously in the thread you created in the "Tech Support" forum... we all know there are problems with the site. If you really think nothing is being done to rectify them, email HR@dundermifflininfinity.com . The numerous threads are completely unnecessary IMHO.

All the "Problem Threads" you create get people riled up for no reason about things WE, as users, can not change.

Why not create a positive thread?

I personally remember your petition thread... it was absolutely asinine. I didn't partake in its discussion solely because the entire post was pointless.

Do you really want a chat room?
Take some initiative and CREATE own yourself. xat.com Is a site which allows people to create their own chat room. Chat away in there!

Or.. take the easy way out and go to the chat rooms other users on the boards have created already.

This leads me to saying this again: we all know there are problems with the website. We are all experiencing the same problems. You are not the only one aggravated and frustrated about the situation we are currently in. Patience. My little friend. Everything will be worked out, but to make it more enjoyable, it'd be a definite positive if you cooled it with the constant creations of threads.

Last year I would always tell people that if they wanted something to get done, make a thread. That applied to last year only when corporate actually read the threads. This year, they rarely do. Sending them emails has been much more efficient.

I don't think the statistics poll thread is what made them post the stats. They run their own ship and do what they want, when they want it. If they actually listened to our threads, they'd have gotten the branch chat up by now, fixed the branch page screw ups, fixed the profile bugs, etc. Making continuous petition like threads won't be the reason they change anything, unfortunately.

If you ACTUALLY want anything done, send HR a bazillion emails. Eventually, they'll see it.

I agree with Jade (BBB, c'mon, you could have been a little nicer to the guy.. but I totally get it). If they actually had been reading through all of the threads, many more glitches & bugs would have been fixed by now. I think you have good intentions at heart, and thank you for wanting DMI to be a better, more useful and resourceful place for us all - but while 'the squeaky wheel gets the grease', this only happens to be true when you use the 'Feedback' email to HR. I know you'd like to think that your posts are what is making the change, and again - I know you only acted with your best intentions - but unfortunately, that isn't the case.

As BBB said, there are two chat rooms (that I know of) that exist, created by other users.
http://xat.com/dundermifflininfinity
http://xat.com/thenook

Both of these chat rooms are great places to interact with others, and to just kick back and have some fun. No, they're not created by NBC - but do they really need to be?

My best advice is to just relax, enjoy DMI for what it is as it is right now, email HR as often as you see fit (rather than creating a bunch of threads), and - like the rest of us - remain somewhat optimistic for things to eventually be fixed.

Well done Petey!

You are certainly a doer. If you see something is wrong, you actively do something to fix it. I am so thankful for people like you :)

The incessant complaining and snide comments by other members is selfish - the people doing it just wanna ruin the fun for everyone else, (and will always find something to complain about).

Certainly there are core members who enjoy being condescending and pessimistic - I think it makes them feel superior or something :)

You tell 'em Mandy!

Thank God we have someone like Petey to point out every flaw!

Without him.. NOTHING would be fixed.

We need more people like Petey to find problems on this site and create threads about them, who cares if there is a Tech Support forum. We need to get the word out. We need to create threads everywhere!!!

DMI HR actually posted ON the statistics poll thread saying that it has been fixed. You can call it coincidence if you like.

... and then there are those of us who have been around since DMI started two years ago, who have seen a lot of things happen and fail to happen, who know how OLC operates the site, and how things actually are fixed around here. We are called 'realistic' - not 'snide', 'selfish', 'condescending', or 'pessimistic'. Yes, sometimes a post like that may occur - but for the most part, you will find old-timers here who are just willing to help and offer *realistic* advice, which should be taken as such.

All three of us who replied (Jade, BBB, and myself) have been here a *long* time. We know how things work. You can choose to ignore our advice and constructive criticism, or you can listen to it and learn a few things.

True. Because you must have been the only and first person to notice that there hasn't been a working stats page. Thanks again Petey! You rock!

I will go ahead and do that, because they've known since the inception of 3.0 that it needed to be fixed, and they've read our many, many, many posts that asked for a working stats page from them.

You rail on my threads regardless of whether or not they are in the tech-support forum or not: http://boards.dundermifflininfinity.com/in...showtopic=40126

And it is not about FINDING problems... as you incessantly say: "we all know there are problems." It is about getting together and asking DMI to fix them. Yes - I could send HR an email, but that is only 1 voice - the cost-benefit ratio of satisfying one person is very high. But, when lots of people voice an opinion, the cost-benefit ratio goes WAY down and it becomes worthwhile to fix.

There is nothing wrong with asking DMI to fix stuff. If you don't like it, then don't read the threads that are asking HR to fix things. Yes, we could all "remain optimistic"... but optimism in and of itself is not proactive.

And why not try to be more positive and nicer when you comment on the initiatives that people are making in an attempt to improve the DMI world? You always walk about "positive" threads and having "fun", but then act like a total condescending a-hole: which is neither positive nor fun.

Whilst your points may be valid, they would be taken more seriously if your delivery wasn't so ***y :)

Ok, I'm sitting cross-legged and wide-eyed, waiting with baited breath for the enlightened words of wisdom that you are so kind to offer - I am trembling and have goose-bumps, (and I just wet myself a little bit) true story.

Petey_Wonder. You act as if your threads are the only threads with importance. Do you realize how many "We want stats" threads there have been, and how many have gone ignored? They didn't look at your thread and say, "HMM! We need to get started on the stats cause Petey is doing a petition!". It was a COINCIDENCE. To get our attention, they posted the results in your thread, but they also posted it in the RM forum, which you wouldn't know about.

Now if only the Stats would show the CORRECT task winners.
And the runners up.
And the weekly earnings.

All the things we saw in the stats LAST YEAR.

They tend to do this because between the two of them, they might have half a brain and when somebody comes along and posts a thoughtful and intelligent reply, they get defensive. If it’s not their idea or suggestion, then it’s wrong. You have no right to come here and make a suggestion or criticize THEIR site.

How dare you?

They act like this because they think they are the King and Queen of all DMI. They are the mean kids that you knew in school and unless you kiss up to them and tell them how great they are, you will never be invited to sit at their table during lunch. Although I wonder why anyone would even want to…

Classic case of cyberbullying.
